Somatic Journaling for Queer Healers
Somatic self care- for the LGBTQIA+ caretakers.
Somatic Journaling is a trauma informed self care skills group. You will learn how to use journaling to track your nervous system and uncover unmet needs that may be causing dysregulation. You will practice noticing bodily experiences that come up while writing and use that information to inform your self care routine. This group pays special attention to how queerness shows up in the body as a resource. While being queer can make us more vulnerable to stress and trauma in American culture, it is also the way we experience pleasure and part of the wisdom of our nervous system.
This group is exclusively for therapists, practitioners, coaches, and healers who identify as queer. Please note that this is a politically aware space- politics do impact our nervous systems and politics/ current events will come up. While I do want us to explore queerness as a resource it is important to acknowledge that queerness is inherently political. If that makes you uncomfortable this is not the group for you. Group size is limited to 10 participants.
This group meets virtually once a month on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm CST. July 16th, August 6th, September 10th, October 8th, November 5th, and December 10th. All meetings are recorded and shared with the group via google drive so if you miss a meeting you don’t have to miss any content.
If you would like to pay in full for a discount, please email hannah@cleverbabes.co, and I will make you an invoice. Save $50 for the monthly meetings paid in full, or save $90 for the monthly meeting and individual Somatic sessions paid in full.

What you will learn over six monthly meetings:
Interoception skills: Interoception is the ability to receive information from your body. We will explore 5 different ways the body communicates and practice each one.
Purpose: Our personal reason “why”.
Emotion: Comfortable and uncomfortable emotions are neutral sources of information about how our body perceives our relationships and lives.
Abstraction: The experience of the 5 senses, real or in our mind’s eye such as memories.
Reaction: How we react to people and situations in our lives.
Location: Where we get visceral sensations inside our bodies.
Pendulation: This is a movement that happens naturally in your nervous system. You will learn what it is, why it’s important, how to track it in yourself, and how to track it in others.
Resourcing: This is essential in any healing work. It is the key to feeling in control of your emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them. This skill will become one you use in your personal healing, but also in all relationships in your life.
How to feel your feelings (without analyzing them): Using all of the above information to be able to feel your feelings in a safe, controlled way. This will allow emotions to move through your body so you don’t feel “stuck” in them. We will explore how to connect to the bodily experience instead of the cognitive experience and what to do with bodily responses like dissociation, freeze, anger, shame, and other patterns that we tend to get “stuck” in.
What past clients say about somatic journaling:
“Somatic journaling showed me how to lovingly and compassionately allow my body to speak its experience; I learned how to flow through both the comfort and discomfort and not just listen but hear the information my body has always given me.”- McKenna
“Learning these tools has helped me gain trust back within my body. On the first night, I wrote about how I felt like my body didn't trust me. Through learning these steps, I've learned how to calm my body when it’s in fight or flight. I've learned how to slow down and not beat myself up constantly. I've learned to just show my body compassion and love, because it freaking deserves it.”- Kelsey
“Somatic journaling taught me how to be in tune with the connection between my physical feelings and emotions introducing a trust in myself that I hadn’t met before”- Jennifer
“It's very, very easy to have someone tell you that you have "tools in your toolbox" but if they don't feel natural to use it's super easy to forget them. The type of self care and coping that I've been able to develop through Somatic Journaling feels innate and, honestly, has been happening right under my nose without me even noticing it sometimes.”- Mallory
Levels of Support:
There is an option to add individual somatic sessions in addition to the monthly group meetings. These sessions can be used to dive deeper into the content that comes up in the group meetings, spend time exploring pleasurable ways to be in your body, navigate blocks you have around embodiment, self care, and journaling, and more. Somatic sessions focus on nervous system regulation and completion of fight/flight/freeze responses and can be a great addition to cognitive therapy or stand on their own. These sessions are 50 minutes and can are held virtually. Hannah will reach out to you via email to schedule all 6 individual sessions. If you can’t attend an individual session please give Hannah at least 24 hours notice and the session can be rescheduled (Limit of two individual sessions can be rescheduled and must be completed within 20 days of the last meeting.) Please note that Hannah is not a therapist and this is not a replacement for therapy.
Discounted Rate Options:
Reaching out and asking for financial support is very difficult so in an effort to make this group more accessible I have three options for price listed. If you can’t afford full price please choose an option that aligns better with your budget. Everyone deserves access to support without having to worry about paying their bills or buying groceries. I trust that you will choose the option best for you and that honors my time and the value of my work. If you need a further discount please reach out via email to hannah@cleverbabes.co.
How do I know if this group is for me?
-
We will meet once a month on Mondays from 12-2 pm. The dates are: 3/24, 4/28, 5/19, 6/23, 7/21, 8/18. It is important that you come to as many meetings as possible so everyone can get the most out of the group.
-
Virtual groups are great for flexibility, accessibility, and people who love to be at home. If you are looking for in person support please look at the other offerings for therapists!
-
No previous training in somatics or Somatic Experiencing® is required but a curious mindset, interest in bottom up approaches, and willingness to sit with uncomfortable bodily experiences will help you get the most out of this group.
-
Being a part of a group as a participant can feel much more vulnerable than leading a group. Are you ready to have your healing be witnessed? Your grief be held? And to witness others without giving advice or stepping in? The purpose of the group in this case is to be present with others while taking care of yourself. This role of receiving can be uncomfortable to people who are so used to giving.
-
This group is an affirming space for all sexual and gender identities.
-
Therapists of color have likely had different experiences than white therapists in the field and in life. If you are not able to hold those experiences as valid without explanation this is not the group for you.
-
There are sliding scale spots available to queer, BIPOC, and disabled therapists in need or therapists who work with marginalized populations at a discounted rate below $55. Please email Hannah directly at hannah@cleverbabes.co. No financial “proof” will be necessary. Please do not hesitate if this is something you need, I am happy to provide my services in an accessible way.
Group Facilitator:
Hannah (she/her) is a queer somatic practitioner and trauma informed designer. Her approach to nervous system regulation and healing work is based on the belief that you already have everything you need to heal within you. You may need help accessing this information from your nervous system, but it is innate in each of us. She sees her role as a facilitator between you and this inner “knowing” as she calls it. She believes you are the expert on your life and ultimately you are the only one who knows what you need. Her work is consent based and she hopes to help participants connect with the sensation of no and feel comfortable expressing it to themselves and others. Read more about Hannah here.
Cancellation Policy:
Due to the limited amount of participants in this group there are no cancellations or refunds. When you sign up you agree to pay all six payments. If you cancel your subscription you will be sent an invoice for the remainder of your balance due immediately. Please make sure you are able to commit to the time and cost of the group before signing up.

More praise for Somatic Journaling:
“It's so freeing to be able to use a coping skill naturally instead of fighting to use one that only sort of works half the time. The skills I have developed truly feel like an extension of myself instead of a shoe that sort of fits. I'm so grateful.”
“These nights have been genuinely life changing. What's funny is that what I've learned has been life changing, but they have just been the smallest changes in my lifestyle. Like just recognizing that I don't breathe when I'm stressed, and learning how to recognize that in the moment and comfort my body?? GAME CHANGING.”
“I don't think I gave enough credence [before somatic journaling] to how discomfort in my body could affect everything or how vital comfort is, even in the form of eating a meal when hungry or putting on socks when the floor feels to floor for my feet.”
“I better understand what is going on in my body which creates a huge amount of space for me to just *be* without any sort of judgment. I love approaching things with curiosity.”
“I am better able to identify the ebbs and flows of my emotions and allow them to naturally progress. I think that's the coolest part! Just having the knowledge that pendulation EXISTS allows me to better cope and give space for anything that arises, comfortable or uncomfortable.”
“The concepts from Somatic Journaling brought things full circle for me and made the healing process feel more attainable with knowing I’m just riding this pendulation for life.”
“Somatic journaling helped me understand we have to feel all the feelings in order to fully appreciate them. We can't numb out the uncomfortable ones and expect not to numb out the comfortable ones. All feelings are worth feeling and processing.”
“My biggest take away from Somatic Journaling is gaining overall awareness of my physical body. I hadn't even realized how often I neglected myself and my own comfort.”
“I now believe I have everything I need within me to heal and care for myself. I can bring myself comfort and security physically and emotionally. Providing physical support helps ease emotional discomfort/distress.”
